The Baumann’s & Their Mom’s

Angie Pine and her husband attended New Hope for years and wanted their daughter, Diane, to attend with them. Diane promised her father she’d attend on July 5, 1998 when New Hope opened on Peralta Blvd. Unfortunately, her Dad passed away before, but Diane kept her promise and attended. “I felt I was coming home to a family reunion every Sunday,” Diane exclaims. At some point after, David’s mother, Shirley joined them and now this four-member family is a part of the New Hope Family! I asked how the Mom-in-laws get along and Diane laughed and said they get along great and that David likes to joke, “When you put them two together – they’re older than Fremont!”

Diane likes “Classic Movies” – not the latest ones – and is quite an expert on them: so if you have a favorite Clark Gable or Natalie Wood movie (or Shirley Temple, or Lana Turner, or…) share with Diane! Whereas Diane and David had no children, David is retiring from the Newark Unified School District where he worked for 32 years as a Custodian – he had lots of kids!

And what does David like about New Hope? Our sense of humor! Remember the time we all moved to different places in the room to sit during the service to amuse P.J.? It took him 5 minutes to get used to us being in the wrong place!
